  2. Two short additions:

    a) from Hamburg Airport to Hamburg Central Station (by bus): The "Jasper" busses tend to be a bit crowded, as they have no separate storage space for luggage. You have to take all your belongings with you into the bus -- and as the space available inside for luggage is very limited, boarding the bus tends to result in chaos (some people entering at the front, others in the middle of the bus... not very well organized). Nevertheless, it is still cheaper than a taxi and you will finally arrive at Hamburg central station ;)

    b) Only of interest to a very small group of freshmen: Should you be travelling to JUB by train, coming from the north (Cuxhaven/Bremerhaven), it is advisable to take the RB and change trains in Bremen-Burg instead of Bremen central station. You won't have to carry all your luggage from one platform to another (like at central station), but you can simply stay on the platform to change trains.
(However, I guess people from the region may already know that ;) - and probably there won't be soooo many freshmen taking this route, either.)
For all others, changing trains at Bremen central station is the better option.

  3. I'm pretty sure the way you described under "Bremen Airport to Jacobs University Via Car" won't work because you can no longer get onto Oldenburger Straße from Neuenlander Straße. As far as I know, you would have to take the A281 instead.

  4. i've updated the route.. Hopefully this is the correct one.. :)

  5. Can you also describe the route from Hannover Arpt to Jacobs University? I am not from the region, so I need this explanation :D

  6. Try this:

  7. If you intend to travel by train, I can only give you a short outline of the route, as I have never taken it personally ;) But I think the essential information is contained.

At Hannover Airport, you should watch out for and follow the signs which lead the way to the train station (signs should be in English, too). If you see either a "DB" sign (red - Deutsche Bahn) or an "S" sign (white S in a green circle - for "S-Bahn"), just follow it.

I have no idea which type of ticket machine is availble at the station. If there is one from Deutsche Bahn with a touchscreen, it should be possible to type in Bremen-Schönebeck as destination. If there's one with many buttons and a list of destinations and code numbers on the machine, and Bremen-Schönebeck is included in the list, it should work, too. However, if there is only one where you can't select Bremen Schönebeck, you should choose Bremen central station (Hauptbahnhof, abbreviation Hbf). Then you will have to buy a second ticket at Bremen central station. In all cases, though, there should be a button to change the language, which may make things easier.
Prices for the whole distance to Jacobs University are approx.: 31€ (with the option to use ICE trains), 27€ (with IC trains), or 23€ (neither IC or ICE trains can be taken). (according to the website of Deutsche Bahn)

Trains at Hannover Airport leave always at minutes :06 and :36 on platform 2. At Hannover central station, you have to change trains.
If you left at :36 at the airport, the next connection will be a RE ("Regionalexpress") on platform 12 (if nothing is changed), which leaves at minute :21 (each hour). If you left the airport at minute :06, the next train will either be an ICE train (at 10:45, 12:45, 14:45, ...) on platform 8 or an IC train (at 9:45, 11:45, 13:45, ...) on platform 11.
In each case, you will have about 20 minutes to change trains.

You have to change trains again at Bremen central station (see above for the route from Bremen central station to Schönebeck). If your first ticket covered only the distance to Bremen Hauptbahnhof, you have to buy another one to Bremen Schönebeck (see above - the one with "code 180").
Here, you will have again 25 or 30 minutes to change trains (if there are no significant delays).

As I said above, I have never taken this route, so I'm afraid the explanation is not totally complete. All the figures as to when the trains leave etc. are valid for weakdays (I suppose you will arrive on August 25 ;)
Maybe somebody else can comment, add some info, or - most important - correct me if something is wrong.

  8. sorry, just the other way round:
    9:45, 11:45, 13:45 ... = ICE, platform 8

  9. Hamburg Airport to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (Central Station)

    Via Train:

Take the S1 train from the airport directly to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. The tickets can be purchased at the machines near the entrance to the train. You could either select individual ticket with (3) zone, or type in the destination as the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof
